VICE PRESIDENT, Advocacy

The Arthritis Foundation is the only national not-for-profit organization that supports the more than 100 types of arthritis and related conditions with advocacy, programs, services and research. Our Public Policy and Advocacy department, located in Washington, DC, is seeking an experienced Vice President, Advocacy to join our team of professionals.

The Vice President, Advocacy, is the Foundation’s Capitol Hill representative and responsible for initiating and managing relationships with Members of Congress and their staff on Capitol Hill. The Vice President, Advocacy is the lead legislative lobbyist and seeks to obtain the passage of legislation and policies beneficial to people with Arthritis. This individual will 1) initiate and maintain contact with existing or new Congressional offices and policy makers; 2) develop legislative strategies; and 3) integrate Capitol Hill and AF Chapter legislative initiative and programs.

Qualified candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in political science or related field plus a minimum of 3-5 years Capitol Hill experience and/or lobbying experience in a non-profit, government, or corporate setting (health related experience strongly preferred). Proven ability to define, target and develop Congressional relationships with the objective of achieving legislative goals is essential. Position requires a proactive mindset, the ability to effectively manage multiple issues, excellent verbal/written communication skills and strong computer skills (PowerPoint, Excel, Word). Ability to work under the pressure of multiple deadlines essential; moderate travel required.
